Poster, Semana de Cine Cubano en Bolivia (Cuban Cinema Week in Bolivia)
This is a Poster. It is dated 1985 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is screenprint on wove paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
After the Revolution of 1959, Cuba exceeded in producing culturally rich posters and films. In particular, the Instituto Cubano del Arte y la Industria Cinematrograficos (ICAIC) was established in result of the culture law developed by the revolutionary government. This new governing system believed that film media was to be the impetus for education and spreading nationalist ideas to the public. The plan to disseminate these ideas involved travel film exhibitions, of which Bolivia was one of the countries who hosted a week of Cuban film.
It is credited Museum purchase from Smithsonian Institution Collections Acquisition Program Fund and through gift of Anonymous Donors.
