Sunbeam Mixmaster Mixer
This is a mixer. It is dated ca. 1955 and we acquired it in 1993. Its medium is chrome-plated metal, molded glass, molded plastic. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Kitchen equipment was revolutionized by the invention of electric appliances. The first rotating mixer was created in 1856, but the appliance was not motorized until 1885. Large industrial mixers were available by the first decade of the twentieth century, but the Sunbeam Mixmaster introduced in 1930 was one of the earliest electric mixers intended for household use. Larger and sturdier than handheld electric mixers, this streamlined stand mixer, still in production today, offers a number of speeds, conveniently labeled with what they are best suited to do.
