Drawing, Design for a Covered Soup Tureen
This is a Drawing. It was company: Companie des Arts Français and designed by André Mare and Louis Süe and from the office of Süe et Mare. It is dated 1921 and we acquired it in 1992. Its medium is graphite, blue color pencil on wove paper, laid down. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
This graphite drawing could have been made as a document for designers or as a fabrication drawing against which artisans would have checked the finished mold-made object before firing. The shading articulating the flutes, pinecone, and leaves emphasizes the powerful, spherical form.
It is credited Museum purchase through gift of George A. Hearn.
