Teapot Teapot
This is a teapot. It was manufactured by Gorham Manufacturing Company. It is dated 1881 and we acquired it in 1991. Its medium is silver, ivory. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
The teapot is typical of Gorham’s japonais style between the late 1870s and early 1880s. Even though it is a single piece from a larger tea set, it is highly compelling on its own and is in extremely good condition. At the time of proposed acquisition, Cooper-Hewitt’s collection holds just one other example of American Japanesque design—a very different tea service by Dominick and Haff. (April 17, 1991)
