Drawing, Design for a Radio Cabinet, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice S. Benjamin Apartment, 211 Central Park West, New York, NY
This is a Drawing. It is dated October 30, 1929 and we acquired it in 1991. Its medium is graphite on tracing paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
In 1929, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice S. Benjamin commissioned architect Ely Jacques Kahn to design their apartment in The Beresford building in New York City. For this drawing, Kahn adjusted his original design of the radio cabinet’s doors and feet in response to feedback from his clients. The cabinet’s light walnut wood in a waxed finish matched the woodwork throughout the living room, and the carved details at the cabinet’s edges and feet matched the room’s decorative trim and echoed motifs of its four ornamental grilles.
It is credited Gift of Mrs Maurice Benjamin.
