Side Chair (England)
This is a Side chair. It was designed by L.N. Cottingham and manufactured by Samuel Pratt. It is dated 1844 and we acquired it in 1991. Its medium is oak. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
This chair was made for Brougham Hall in Cumbria, England as part of a set of twelve. Known as the "Windsor of the North", Brougham Hall was a spectacular and eccentric Gothic-revival buildling, made to the designs of the architect L. N. Cottingham, Who also provided furniture for the house. (Recent Acquisitions, Decorative Arts 04/1992)
It is credited Museum purchase through gift of the Estate of Dona Guimaraes.
