Commemorative Picture, Fac-similes of the Signatures to the Declaration of Independence

This is a Commemorative picture. It was manufactured by American Silk Label Manufacturing Company. It is dated 1925 and we acquired it in 1988. Its medium is silk and its technique is jacquard woven. It is a part of the Textiles department.

The woven signatures were produced with the Jacquard technique, using multiple punch cards for the design. This work highlights the importance of script and its extension into design.

This object was donated by Milton Sonday. It is credited Gift of Milton Sonday.

It is inscribed

under eagle, " Facsimiles of the signatures to the Declaration of Independence July 4 1776 taken from Irvings History of the united states which John Quincy Adams certified were EXACT IMITATIONS OF THE ORIGINAL" at bottom under names, "Presented as a souvenir of the fiftieth anniversary of the American Silk Label Mfg Co. 116 West 32nd St. New York Mills at Unionville N.Y. Sussex N.J. 1875 1925
