Famous Actresses Cane
This is a Cane. It was made by Fred Brown. It is dated 1920s and we acquired it in 1987. Its medium is carved and polychromed wood, silver, steel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
The decorative cane, most fashionable in European markets, often denoted social status and was commonly used as an accessory regardless of physical need for a walking aid. This cane, decorated with the likenesses of early twentieth century film actresses Mary Pickford, Clara Young, Mary Miles Minter, and Bebe Daniels and topped with a silver handle, would have proven a conversation-starting accessory.
