SK 25 Radio
This is a radio. It was manufactured by Braun AG. It is dated ca. 1962 and we acquired it in 1986. Its medium is plastic, metal. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
A later iteration of the Braun and Eichler’s SK 1 radio from 1955, the SK 25 boasts a geometric, graphic character thanks to its circular dial and knobs and the perforated speaker cover. The dot-grid recalls the disciplined organization of the factory floor and the austere simplicity of military equipment but speaks as well to burgeoning Pop Art sensibilities, calling to mind the Ben-Day dots used by pulp comic book illustrators and adopted by the American artist Roy Lichtenstein.
