Textile

This is a Textile. It is dated 17th–18th century and we acquired it in 1984. Its medium is silk and its technique is 7 &1 satin damask; warp float face of satin as background. It is a part of the Textiles department.

The patterns of this silk and the adjacent linen napkin are closely related by similarities in the drawing of the flowers and leaves. These two fabrics are part of a group of linens and silks which display outstanding sensitivity to natural forms.

It is credited Purchase, General Funds.

Its dimensions are

Warp x Weft: 115 × 42 cm (45 1/4 × 16 9/16 in.) Repeat H: 41 cm (16 1/8 in.)
