Sampler (Austria)
This is a Sampler. It was embroidered by Karoline Berger and student at Kunstgewerbeschule. It is dated ca. 1900 and we acquired it in 1981. Its medium is cotton embroidery on cotton foundation and its technique is embroidered in deflected element work using overcasting, cut fabric with needlemade fillings, padded satin, herring bone over a cord, and couching stitches on plain weave foundation; corners worked separately and applied. It is a part of the Textiles department.
