Sampler (possibly Italy)

This is a Sampler. It was embroidered by Peano Marte. It is dated 1908 and we acquired it in 1981. Its medium is silk and wool embroidery on cotton foundation and its technique is embroidered in cross stitches (looping, backward movement) on plain weave foundation with spaced warps and wefts (penelope canvas). It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer. It is credited Bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer.
