This is a Sampler. It was embroidered by Lydia Sheward. It is dated 1795 and we acquired it in 1981. Its medium is silk embroidery on linen foundation, linen edge tape, cotton needle lace and its technique is embroidered in cross, half cross, satin, stem, chain, french knot and running stitches on plain weave foundation with deflected element work and cut work with needle-made fillings with loop and twist and wrapping; appliqué of woven silk ribbon. It is a part of the Textiles department.
