Sidewall - Sample, Wings Over America
This is a Sidewall - sample. It was manufactured by United Wallpaper, Inc.. It is dated 1946 and we acquired it in 1947. Its medium is machine-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
Inspired by a 1939 U.S. Army Air Corps poster designed by Tom B. Woodburn which featured a central eagle emblazoned with the Air Corps star logo flying amidst army planes, Wings Over America similarly contains a cluster of airplanes, in different makes and models, flying at varying altitudes and in opposing directions. Printed in red, white and blue, with a good perspective and lots of energy, this is a strong design with special appeal to boys and patriots. The design captures the post-war fascination with air travel as well as honoring the plane as America’s first line of defense.
