Flip Glass (Netherlands)
This is a Flip glass. It is dated mid-18th century and we acquired it in 1947. Its medium is glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
In the eighteenth century, Dutch glassmakers were skillful in engraving, leading to large quantities of glassware either being produced or engraved in the Netherlands. This flared glass, featuring an acid-etched floral spray and foliate pattern, is commonly referred to as a flip glass, due to the popular 18th-centry cocktail that it often contained.
