Milk Jug Milk Jug

This is a milk jug. It was made by Charles Nicolas Odiot and Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot. It is dated 1825–1838 and we acquired it in 1946. Its medium is silver, gold, wood. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by James Hazen Hyde. It is credited Gift of James Hazen Hyde.

On the underside of jug: [1] “O” above a lamp within a lozenge, impressed (maker’s mark) On the base edge of jug: [1] “ODIOT.”, impressed (maker’s mark) [2] Cérès head in circle, impressed (guarantee mark, French, 1819–1838) On the neck of jug, near the handle: [1] Michelangelo head facing right with “1” in an octagon, impressed (standard mark, French, 1819–1838)
