Bracelet (Italy)

This is a Bracelet. It is dated ca. 1870 and we acquired it in 1946. Its medium is coral, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Jewelry made from coral found in the Mediterranean Sea was popular with nineteenth-century tourists to the Naples region, wher emuch of it was made. coral had long been held to be imbued with magical powers that protected the wearer against ill health and evil spells. (Jewelry 1989-90).

This object was donated by R. Keith Kane. It is credited Gift of the estate and in memory of Robert B. Noyes.
