Drawing, Design for Painted Decoration of a Wall, with Alternative Suggestions

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Unknown. It is dated 1840–60 and we acquired it in 1940. Its medium is brush and watercolor, graphite on white wove paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

These four drawings, in the Beidermeier style by an unknown artist, show alternative designs for painted wall decorations, dados and borders. Each drawing includes multiple design possibilities within the same color palette and was used as a record in the studio to show prospective clients.
