Drawing, Triumphal Arch on an Ideal Piazza
This is a Drawing. It was architect: Gaetano Frizzati. It is dated 1807 and we acquired it in 1938. Its medium is pen and black ink, brush and blue, green and yellow watercolor on cardboard. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
The drawing is inscribed on the verso to Francesco Santini, professor of perspective, and is signed and dated by Frizzati. The inscription provides us with the only information we have about this talented artist. The drawing was apparently made when Frizzati was a student at the Academy in Bologna where Santini (1763-1840) was a teacher.
It is credited Museum purchase through gift of various donors and from Eleanor G. Hewitt Fund.
