Print, Plate 47, Dans un Boudoir (In a Boudoir), Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Taste), Vol. 2, No. 10
This is a Print. It was designed by Bagge et Huguet and the art director was Lucien Vogel. It is dated 1920 and we acquired it in 1980. Its medium is lithograph and pochoir on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Following a practice started by the very first fashion magazines, the Gazette du Bon Ton often included inserts depicting modern interiors to add variety to the magazine’s many luxurious fashion plates. Rich hand-colored pochoir prints suited the extravagance of the magazine’s clothing and interior fashions. This boudoir interior shows a striking design for a lacquer table with gold motifs in carved relief. Bold tiles, rug, and pouf create a sense of exoticism and opulence.
It is credited Gift of Unknown Donor.
