Towel (Italy)

This is a Towel. It is dated early 17th century and we acquired it in 1978. Its medium is linen, silk and its technique is embroidered on plain weave using double running stitches for linear details; background area has horizontal and vertical wrapping stitches pulled tight to deflect groups of warps and wefts; weft loops in a countered two units of four-strand twining. It is a part of the Textiles department.
