Sidewall, Blutengarten (Blossom Garden)
This is a sidewall. It was designed by Felice Rix-Ueno and manufactured by Salubra-Werke A.G. and made for Wiener Werkstätte. It is dated 1913–32 and we acquired it in 1971. Its medium is machine printed on machine-made paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
This floral paper designed for the Wiener Werkstätte employs minimal styling on a neutral colored ground. About sixteen different flowers are represented, and while each is rendered in a series of lines or blocks of color the contrasts between the different species is great. The pattern is rather dense but the delicate rendering of many of the flowers creates a feeling of lightness.
