Bilboquet (France)

This is a Bilboquet. It is dated possibly ca. 1780 and we acquired it in 1967. Its medium is ivory, silk cord (replacement). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This child's toy, known in France as a bilboquet, has a ball carved with images of cherbus playing the games. The stick's inscription "Menus Plaisir du Roy, Versailles, " suggests that it was made in the royal workshops for the family of King Louis XVI (Design for Life, 1997-98).

This object was donated by Unknown. It is credited Gift of Anonymous Donor.
