Collar (Italy)
This is a Collar. It is dated 1650–75 and we acquired it in 1962. Its medium is linen and its technique is needle lace. It is a part of the Textiles department.
This style of lace was commonly called Venetian. Such laces rarely survive intact because the heavy motifs pulling against the thin connecting bars make them vulnurable to tearing. This collar style was popular for men in the first half of the 17th century.
