Sugar Caster
This is a Sugar caster. It is dated early 19th century and we acquired it in 1960. Its medium is molded tin-glaze earthenware, overglaze lustre. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
This ceramic sugar caster was inteded to imitate silver examples. Luster decoration involves the use of pigments made from metallic oxides which are applied to the ceramic and fired. (Tools for the Table, 1993).
