Pair of Tea or Sugar Caddies Caddies
This is a caddies. It was made by William Cripps. It is dated 1752 and we acquired it in 1960. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Tea paraphernalia decorated with plantation scenes appropriate to their function were seen in works by Lamerie, Sprimont, and Pantin about twenty years before this example. Cripps incorporated scenes of tea picking into fully
developed rococo scrolls.
