Pendant (Italy)
This is a Pendant. It was designed by Hans Collaert and created by Ernesto Pierret and engraved by Hans Collaert II. It is dated 1875–90 and we acquired it in 1959. Its medium is gold, enamel, rubies, sapphires, pearls. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
The design for this brooch is based on an illustration from a book or ornaments by Hans Collaert dating from the sixteenth century. Ernesto Pierret, designer of the brooch, was born in Paris and worked in Rome from about 1845 to 1898. He was most well-known for his jewelry in the Etruscan style. (Jewelry 1989-90)
