Pillow Cover (England)

This is a Pillow cover. It is dated 1600–1650 and we acquired it in 1959. Its medium is linen foundation, silk, metallic thread, mica, glass chips and beads, pearls and its technique is silk embroidered on plain weave using tent stitch and tent stitch with cut loops over padding; metal thread embroidery using slanted running stitch with diagonal alternating from row to row, couching and detached interlooping stitches over padding. It is a part of the Textiles department.
