Pair of Salvers Salvers

This is a salvers. It was made by Edward Barrett. It is dated 1708–09 and we acquired it in 1958. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Its dimensions are

H x diam. (a): 5.2 x 17.5 cm (2 1/16 x 6 7/8 in.) H x diam. (b): 6 x 17.5 cm (2 3/8 x 6 7/8 in.)

It has the following markings

On underside of salver (a): [1] "E" and possibly "B" in cursive, impressed (maker's mark) [2] "T" in a shield, impressed (date letter, 1708–1709) [3] Crowned harp, impressed (standard mark, Dublin, Ireland) On underside of salver (b): [1] "E" and possibly "B" in cursive, impressed (maker's mark) [2] "T" in a shield, impressed (date letter, 1708–1709) [3] Crowned harp, impressed (standard mark, Dublin, Ireland)

It is inscribed

Incised on underside of each salver dish: [1] "Don de Louis Crommelin le Fils", skull, crossed bones, "S.L.C.", incised
