Drawing, Floral Design for printed textiles

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Louis-Albert DuBois and manufactured by Fabrique de Fazy aux Bergues. It is dated 1800–1818 and we acquired it in 1957. Its medium is graphite, brush and gouache on blue wove paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

The Fazy factory was active in Geneva during the 18th and 19th

century and employed 1200 workers in the manufacture of printed

calicoes. These designs show variations of fanciful border patterns

that would have been used for block-printing dress fabric.
