Pleated Fan, 1846

This is a Pleated fan. It is dated 1846 and we acquired it in 1956. Its medium is printed, hand-colored and gilded paper leaf, drilled and painted bone sticks with metal foil decorations, faceted stone at rivet, gilt metal bail, silk tassel, mirrors on guards. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Mrs. Stephen B. Stanton.

H x W (open): 28.6 x 53.3 cm (11 1/4 x 21 in.) without tassel H x W (open): 50.8 x 53.3 cm (20 x 21 in.) with tassel

It is inscribed

Printed on the obverse, at top: Casamiento de la Reina Isabel, y la infanta, en la sala del Trono, el 10 Octubre 1846, a las 10 de la noche en Madrid. Beneath, from left to right: Generales y Ayudante (Generals and attendants), El Altar (the alter), El Patriarca de las Indias y el Clero (The patriarch of the Indies and the clergy), La Infanta: Christina y El Duque de Montpensieu, El Duque de Cadir y La Reina Isabel, El Duque de Bagleu y Grandes de Espana (Great people of Spain), Magistrados y Servidumbre (Magistrates).
