Border (England)
This is a Border. It was manufactured by Bromley Hall. It is dated ca. 1760 and we acquired it in 1951. Its medium is cotton and its technique is printed by engraved plate on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.
This valence was probably made to accompany bed hangings. The powerful use of rococo cartouches and naturalistic sprays of flowers blends ornament with textile design.
