Trimming (Italy)
This is a Trimming. It is dated 1550–1600 and we acquired it in 1950. Its medium is silk dyed red, silk dyed green, silver metallic foil wound onto white silk and its technique is bobbin lace, metallic. It is a part of the Textiles department.
The three colors make it easy to see how the braids followed the pattern. There are three 4-element braids of rose silk, two of green silk, and four of silver metallic. Crossings of yarns had to be carefully done to keep the colors in order.
