Cap Streamers (Belgium), 1700–1750

This is a Cap streamers. It is dated 1700–1750 and we acquired it in 1950. Its medium is linen and its technique is bobbin lace, binche ground. It is a part of the Textiles department.

The yarn of these streamers is very fine, the structure remarkably even, and what can be called a background is filled with a small scale pattern. While the design of each piece is vertically symmetrical it is not literally so.

This object was donated by Richard Cranch Greenleaf (American, 1887–1961). It is credited Gift of Richard C. Greenleaf Esq. in memory of his mother, Adeline Emma Greenleaf.

Its dimensions are

H x W (a): 59.4 × 10.5 cm (23 3/8 × 4 1/8 in.) H x W (b): 59.4 × 10.5 cm (23 3/8 × 4 1/8 in.)
