Wall Pocket, late 17th century
This is a Wall pocket. It is dated late 17th century and we acquired it in 1950. Its medium is silk, metallic thread and its technique is embroidery on salmon (faded) and blue silk plain weave; stem, knot, satin and chain stitches using dyed silks; couched gold-wrapped silk and strips of silver foil; plus attached coils of silver and gilt wire. It is a part of the Textiles department.
It is credited Gift of Richard C. Greenleaf Esq. in memory of his mother, Adeline Emma Greenleaf.
