Flounce (Belgium)

This is a Flounce. It is dated 1745–65 and we acquired it in 1950. Its medium is linen and its technique is brussels style bobbin lace. It is a part of the Textiles department.

In the 18th century the nets of laces increasingly covered broader areas and motifs became isolated.

This object was donated by Richard Cranch Greenleaf (American, 1887–1961). It is credited Gift of Richard C. Greenleaf Esq. in memory of his mother, Adeline Emma Greenleaf.
