Tray with Man on Bridge near a Pagoda Tray

This is a tray. It was made by Henry Chawner. It is dated 1790–91 and we acquired it in 1931. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Eleanor Garnier Hewitt and Sarah Cooper Hewitt. It is credited Gift of Eleanor and Sarah Hewitt.

On underside of tray: [1] “HC”, impressed (maker’s mark) [2] Crowned leopard’s head, impressed (town mark, London, 1478-1822) [3] “P” in a pointed shield, impressed (date letter, 1790-91) [4] Lion passant, impressed (standard mark, English) [5] Head of King George III, impressed (duty mark, 1786–1821)
