Brooch And Pair Of Earrings (probably France), ca. 1860
This is a Brooch and pair of earrings. It is dated ca. 1860 and we acquired it in 1928. Its medium is bright-cut engraved aluminum, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Aluminu, the familiar metal of today's beverage cans, was condiserably rarer when first commericially produced in the nineteenth century. The "jewels" in this set are made of matte and engraved aluminum, set into gold frames. (Toward Modern Design, 1993)
