Print, Title Page

This is a Print. It was designed by Jean-Baptiste Leroux and manufactured by Jean Léon Decloux and published by Jean Mariette. It is dated early 18th century and we acquired it in 1920. Its medium is etching and engraving on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

Lettered in plate, upper center: Gallerie ou grand Vestibule au Rez-de-Chaussée; lettered in center: Nouveaux/ LAMBRIS/ DE GALERIES,/ CHAMBRES, ET/ CABINETS/ Par/ Le Sr. J.B. Le Roux/ Architect; numbered lower right: 1; lettered along the lower margin within plate: Les Lambris se font presentement à grands Panneaux de bois de chesne ornez de Cadres ou de Simples moulures. On peint les Lambris en blanc à huile/ et plus ordinairement a detrempe; pour épargner la dépense et pour éviter la mauvaise odeur. Le blanc rend les lieux plus clairs, plus propres et plus/ frais; on dore les Ornemens et moulures pour une plus grande richesse. Quand on veut pas peindre le bois, on y met deux couches de vernis a l’esprit de/ vin, apres y avoir passé deux encollures de colle de gants. On orne les Lambris au dessus de l’appuy, de glaces d’une ou de plusieurs pieces.
