Brisé Fan (Austria)

This is a Brisé fan. It is dated 1873 and we acquired it in 1920. Its medium is wood sticks with applied chromolithograph on paper; silk ribbon and tassel. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This fan was an inexpensive souvenir from the 1873 Vienna World Exposition. The image on the front of the fan, of the Industrial Palace exhibition pavilion, was mass produced using chromolithography (color lithography).

This object was donated by Mrs. James O. Green. It is credited Gift of Mrs. James O. Green.
