Pocket (USA)

This is a Pocket. It is dated ca. 1870 and we acquired it in 1916. Its medium is cotton and its technique is printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

Simple drawstring pouches were used by women to carry small items like needle cases and thread. This plain-woven textile is similar in its color scheme and design to the swatches in sample book 1950-99-1.

This object was donated by Mrs. William P. Treadwell. It is credited Gift of Mrs. William P. Treadwell.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 16.5 x 15 cm (6 1/2 x 5 7/8 in.)
