Drawing, Female Monkey in Rococo Dress

This is a Drawing. It was style of Christophe Huet. It is dated late 19th century and we acquired it in 1911. Its medium is brush and gouache over graphite on thin board. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.



While executed in the 19th century, these two drawings capture the mocking spirit of singerie. This foppish pair have the clothing and accessories predominant in 18th-century France: she has a feathered confection of a hat, powdered wig, pink muff, and deeply ruched skirt, while he, engaged in prayer, wears a three-piece suit and a powdered wig with a black wig bag.

This object was donated by Advisory Council. It is credited Purchased for the Museum by the Advisory Council.
