Plate
This is a plate. It is dated 19th century and we acquired it in 1906. Its medium is tin-glazed earthenware. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Earthenware dishes, less costly than porcelains, carried Revolutionary ideas and symbols into the homeshones of a wide section of French society. This plate depicts a liberty tree, a Phrygian bonnet, and the motto "Liberty or Death". (L'art de Vivre- 1989).
It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Mrs. John B. Trevor.
