Color Blanket
This is a Color blanket. It was designed by Randy Horton and woven by Lartie Kea and manufactured by J.P. Stevens & Co. Inc.. It is dated 1982 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is 80% wool, 20% mohair and its technique is plain woven. It is a part of the Textiles department.
A color blanket or sample blanket is a tool used by textile designers and manufacturers in the development and selection of a color palette. In this blanket, sixteen different colored warp stripes intersect with sixteen different weft colors, creating a total of 256 unique color combination. The manufacturer would normally cut the blanket apart, selecting the colors which would go into production and be offered to buyers. This intact blanket documents an important step in the design process, namely, the development of a palette for a collection of woven textiles.
