Sidewall - Sample, Willow
This is a Sidewall - sample. It was designed by Morris & Co. and manufactured by Jeffrey & Company. It is dated 1888 and we acquired it in 1980. Its medium is block-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
In 1871, Morris acquired a joint tenancy lease at Kelmscott Manor, the family’s country home in southern England. He found ideas for his designs while exploring the surrounding countryside. Willow trees filled Morris’s walks and were a frequent subject of his wallpapers and textiles.
It is credited Museum purchase from Smithsonian Regents Collections Acquisition Fund.
