George Gershwin is, simply put, an American treasure. While “American Popular Song,” “Tin Pan Alley,” and orchestral works are all a vital part of his catalog, “Rhapsody In Blue” is perhaps his most iconic work. On February 12, 1924 at New York’s Aeolian Hall, Paul Whiteman put on a concert called An Experiment In Modern Music. The concert ended with the premiere of “Rhapsody In Blue,” with Gershwin himself performing at the piano. The work was commissioned by Whiteman for the event.
