Woodnotes is a Finnish design company founded by Ritva and Mikko Puotila in 1987. Ritva Puotila is a notable Finnish textile artist, and has received numerous awards for her work as a designer. Before she started the company, Ritva worked as a textile designer for Tampella, which was at the time the largest linen manufacturer in Finland. They also manufactured paper yarn for insulating cables, which was where she learned the various technical and visual aspects of paper yarn.
