Cardinal Alessandro Albani

From the British Museum: "Cardinal, virtuoso and collector. Brother of Annibale (q.v.). Initially started his career in the military, becoming colonel of dragoons in 1707, but was led to give up in favour of the Church by his uncle pope Clement XI (q.v.). Created Cardinal in 1721. In 1745 commissioned the villa Albani, which he filled with his collection of antiquities."
