David Wolff

David Wolff is undoubtedly the most important Hague stipple engraver, although unfortunately little is known of his life and work. It is not known who taught Wolff the art of stippling on glass. He worked for some time in the studio of the painter Dirk van der Aa (1731–1809), who specialized in decorative painting on carriages and wallpaper. It was here that he learnt to portray the putti and other decorative elements found on his glasses, which clearly reveal van der Aa's influence. Only ten known glasses are signed by Wolff.
