French financier under Louis XIV and Louis XV. He made a fortune on the slave trade, investing heavily in La Société d’Angola. He was given many titles including marquis de Brunoy, comte de Sampigny, baron de Dagonville, comte de Chateaumeillant, d'Argenton et de Veuil d'Argenson, vicomte de la Motte Feuilly, baron de Saint-Jeanvrin, Saligny et Marigny, seigneur de Villers-sur-Mer. He was godfather to Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour. He remained banker to court until 1759.
